Time Honored Values for Exceptional Lives: Scope

This program will be non-denominational, non-religious, non-political, but will draw from many cultural and historical sources. The scope will extend only to directing our children to models of behavior that have been accepted and tested, from Hercules to the NYFD, from Confucius to Bill Gates.

Starting from Kindergarden, we first open students’ eyes to the wonder of Heroic stories. We’ll review some of the “Codes of Behavior” created by older civilizations and generations….the Greeks (Aristotle, for example, who taught not only about the archetypal hero, but of the journey the hero must take to become one, the dangers and temptations encountered during the journey, etc.), the Samurai, the Knights Templar, The Founding Fathers, etc. Then at about the Jr. High level we begin to transition the students’ attention to Heroes closer to home, the heroes who work daily to ensure their well-being, the applicability of the values in today’s world. Projects, exercises and worksheets will be provided in order to encourage thinking, analysis, and understanding.

In it’s fullest scope, the project will eventually culminate in an interactive website with links to libraries and bookstores, book recommendations and excerpts with colorful, animated character studies, video clips from inspiring movies, music clips from inspiring music, the ability to download reading materials, character cards, workbooks and projects. The site will provide guidance to parents and teachers on initiating the program, program curriculum, workbooks and methods of generating interest from their children and students. The curriculum will also be linked to Education Standards set by the State of California.

In addition, there may be a series of age-appropriate books published particularly to be read at home by parents with their children, or by the children themselves.
